"We have killed the Hizbul Mujaheedin district commander Sajad Ahmed Bhat alias Tahir Maqsood and three other militants. With their elimination, we have almost wiped out the entire group of Hizbul militants operating in Kulgam," S M Sahai, Kashmir inspector general of police said.
The state's Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), which made the arrest, was tracking him for the past 8-10 days.
Ahmed was residing in Pakistan since September, 2003. He was involved in many violent attacks against civilians and security forces including an attack on a STF (special task force) camp.
Geelani's son-in-law Altaf Ahmed Shah and other six accused Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Shahid-ul-Islam, Mehrajuddin Kalwal, Nayeem Khan and Farooq Ahmed Dar were arrested on July 24 in the case of alleged funding of terror and subversive activities in the Kashmir Valley.
